The Unique Value of the eduWeavers School-to-School Partnership Program

What is the value of a school-to-school partnership?

A school-to-school partnership provides opportunities for schools and their communities to learn about, understand, and benefit from a relationship with another culture. Opportunities afforded through the partnership include:
  • Cultural exchanges (whether on-line or face-to-face)
  • Curriculum enrichment across the disciplines and grade levels
  • Student-led initiatives in areas such as global sustainability exploration, social justice debate, and philanthropic giving
  • Inter-generational community building both within the local community and across the partnership community

Why do schools need eduWeavers when they can do research and create a school-to-school partnership on their own?

While any pair or group of schools has the potential to work collaboratively on a project, such a joint venture does not set the foundation in place for a long-term, sustainable, reciprocal learning-based partnership to develop. eduWeavers offers schools:
  • Experienced consulting to facilitate the initial self-evaluation of globalization goals that is necessary prior to entering a partnership
  • Experienced consulting to train schools and their constituencies in the partnership philosophy and process (which focuses on: 1) reciprocal learning-driven curriculum enrichment across disciplines and grade levels; 2) community building; and 3) informed philanthropic giving, as appropriate)
  • Cost-effective methods to facilitate the development and sustaining of global partnerships and community building through local community representation
  • Expertise in global curriculum development that leverages existing curriculum

How can schools become eduWeavers partner schools?

  • eduWeavers schools must exhibit an ability to be responsive, cooperative, and dynamic partners
  • All schools in partnerships should have a thoughtful administrative team in place with the ability to articulate needs, interests, concerns, and ideas with their partners
  • By using eduWeavers consulting, schools can ready themselves to join the partnership network by engaging in both discussions and formal reflective writings/questionnaires facilitated by eduWeavers consultants
  • eduWeavers will form partnerships based on the results of this reflective process

Who ensures that the school-to-school partnerships are flourishing?

eduWeavers currently has informal field officers on the ground in South Africa and intends to formalize these positions as soon as funding becomes available. Field officers with intimate knowledge of the local culture and education system will continue to play a central role in both training and supporting schools in the partnership network.

What types of skills and understanding does eduWeavers aim for its partner-school students and extended communities to gain?

Schools in the partnership network will have the opportunity to watch communities grow in unanticipated ways through direct interaction with another culture. Participants will learn about:
  • How and why there are similarities and differences across the globe (economic, political, cultural, educational)
  • Ideas, concepts, and experiments explored by both communities in a variety of disciplines and through any number of events, all through first-hand exposure
  • The power and benefits of philanthropy, as schools involved in partnerships that have philanthropic components will either gain immediate resources of great necessity or gain the opportunity to have a much more personal connection to a community service experience

What would be the advantage of supporting eduWeavers as opposed to supporting a non-profit organization dedicated to distributing resources in the developing world?

By supporting eduWeavers, a contributor is not making a choice between feeding children or educating them. Partner schools improve lives by:
  • Expediting philanthropic aid to school-age children from some of the wealthiest communities in the world to some of the most impoverished
  • Eliminating overhead costs, typically incurred by most charities, through implementing the eduWeavers School-to-School Partnership Model (schools raising funds for their partner schools act as a tax-deductible conduit for precious funds that flow directly to specific destinations and feed, house, and/or support the learners of the partner school so that they can learn effectively)
  • Preparing previously underserved communities to leverage local support agencies through awareness programs and infrastructure development guidance

Ultimately, these actions produce a healthy, educated population capable of supporting itself.

Are my donations to eduWeavers tax-deductible?

Yes, eduWeavers has both federal and state (CA) tax-exempt status. All donations are 100% tax deductible.
